Meet Chuuhai: Japan's Refreshing Shochu Highball

Chuuhai takes its name from a blend of shochu and highball (haibōru), and is a fixture of standing bars and izakaya across Japan. 

On request a specialty bar will mix shochu with a choice of natural fruit flavours - from zesty citrus to fresh tomato, (yes really). It’s finished with a splash of soda for a refreshing, easy-drinking highball. Who knew a portmanteau could taste this good?

Mix at home

Fill a highball glass with ice, add 30ml of shochu and 45ml of yuzu nigori. Top with soda, give it a gentle stir and enjoy.

Prefer it lighter? Add less shochu. Want more kick - you know the drill.

This Craft Chuuhai Kit includes:

Mugi Shochu - Momosuke Shodai Shochu 720ml - This mindblowing mugi shochu is milled to approx 65%, a very aromatic mugi shochu designed to please. Inoue Shuzo's signature drink.

Yuzushu - Hanamikura Yuzu Nigori 500ml - Made with whole ripe yuzu steeped in shochu with a little sugar added for balance. Topped up with some fresh yuzu juice just before bottling.
