SYD 3pm Sake Sessions - Sake Through The Ages - Sat 29 August 2026

$25.00 AUD

Sake Sessions

In this fascinating sake session we will explore the last 700 years of sake brewing in a succession of 5 bottles.

Tasting begins with a super modern style of Muroka Nama Genshu using a combo of a newly developed yeast and rice variety. This is cutting edge sake designed to invigorate a new generation of sake drinkers.

We then skip back to the early 1900’s with a pair of Kimoto and Yamahai - old school brewing. Many Kimoto and Yamahai styles can be kept in bottle for a few years, a subject we will discuss on the day.

We travel back even further with true Bodaimoto starter made with water drawn from the Shoryaku-ji temple in Nara.

Final stop will be a tasting of the exquisite Mizuhana 1355. A historically correct interpretation of Summer brewing in 1355 following a monk's recipe, using a single step fermentation process. This is a super rare opportunity and definately one not to miss.

As always, the sake will be delicious and the banter will be light hearted and fun.

The sake world is vast with a myriad of styles and the best way to get your head around it is in delicious bite sized pieces like this Sake Session!

Join us for an informal chat and tasting on the history of Japanese sake on Saturday 29 August. Please arrive a few minutes before your start time so we can all taste together as a group.

Session will last about 35-40 minutes so there will be plenty of time to chat and of course Sakeshop will be open so you can purchase your new favourites.
